Old salt
film photography, double exposure on aluminium: “old salt is a double exposure ,meaning two images layered over a single frame. It’s composed of macro shots of kelp and my dads gorgeous old cooking tools. The matching images are placed side by side and inverted playing on the spiralling in the image.

Burt
film photography, double exposures on aluminium : these two images were taken in the garden believe it or not. With my shambled arrangement of lenses and an old magnifying glass to play with the light and focal. I’m not looking for a legible image instead I want something entirely new to come to light, through the light. But in the background you’ll see textures from an old sunflower forming the base of the image. Let your imagination do the rest.

Fish eyes and full bladders
film photography, double exposure on aluminium: “My grandfather on my dads side was an artist, he did this one artwork on metal thats long been my favourite. Lovely shapes and lighting. Taking my dad’s old whisk and some kelp collected from a surf, some playful lighting, and I got these shots. The aluminium allows the light to play on the images contrast ,much like dappled sea, there is a sense of cycle through the repeating images.

Old tools
film photography, B&W, on aluminium : “Chefs knife roll with all his special tools for specific jobs was the start of a small obsession of mine…. Tools! Specific tools to be used by hands, I just love em. Dads always had ‘heirloom’ tools, grand blades belonging to his grandparents that have now been sharpened down to little pairing knifes , such excessive use, a good life for a knife.

Choux de mer
film photography, macro, on canvas : “Choux de mer” means cabbage of the sea. Chef and I spend a lot of time in the kelp, it’s just beautiful. So much joy and inspiration come from the impossible beauty and complexity of nature, the textures, colours, cycles and geometry. This shot is a macro shot of a section of bladder kelp, a long vine like kelp that glows a deep green/mustard in the light. I wanted to capture this “photosynthesis” if you will , so the peice is lit from the back.
